Thanks
-
risen is thankful for some useful tips received while participating in the DivestOS XMPP Multi-User Chat (MUC).
risen is grateful for the other users who challenged Micay's (strcat) false accusations.
risen acknowledges when Micay was not being irate, Micay did try to help solve some issues and
explain (some would say lecture) their reasons for some technical decisions.

Conclusions
- risen is not part of a campaign. risen is not a liar. risen is not malicious.
- risen could not care less what happens to Daniel Micay or GrapheneOS; however, as a fellow human being, risen hopes Micay
finds peace, and stops causing disruptions to other Free Software or open source software efforts.
To the extent Micay or GrapheneOS efforts have improved Android, or other operating systems or software,
risen is grateful; however,
risen does not believe anything Micay or GrapheneOS supporters say, without proof - Proof being something significantly more
than a few selected screenshots from Twitter, for example.
- risen was on the fence before - leaning to not trusting Micay, but slightly unsure. After the experience documented here,
risen no longer has any doubt. risen does not trust Micay, or his followers.
For this reason alone, risen would not use GrapheneOS or their apps, or support them in any way.
What would risen do?
- risen now runs a minimum install of CalyxOS on two newer daily driver phones supporting Android
13 14, and runs vanilla LineageOS 18 (Android 11) on an aging daily driver. Two of the three phones previously ran DivestOS for many months. One ran GrapheneOS for a couple weeks to a month.
- Three even older phones
still no longer run DivestOS. , because no other regularly updated alternative could be found for these Android version 11 and 7 phones. On these older phones, PostmarketOS is being installed. default included Mull browser and the Support app are not used or disabled, updates for those app are set to ignored if possible, and DivestOS repositories are disabled in F-Droid except for roughly monthly checks for Webview updates.
risen has given up on DivestOS, and does not run any Divested "Group" apps.
- risen likes web browsers Fennec F-Droid,
Firefox Klar, and
Tor browser,
and the Orbot proxy with Tor app,
usually installed and updated using
FFUpdater from F-Droid. Otherwise, F-Droid usually has all the apps risen wants or needs.
-
risen disables the Calyx Updater app in apps settings, and turns off its network access, between updates
(same as it was for GrapheneOS).
Once or twice monthly updates are usually announced on the CalyxOS News page.
In DivestOS or LineageOS, update checks are more sensibly and easily made manual
by setting Auto updates check to Never in System Updater Preferences.
Network access can also be removed for the Updater app.
- risen tried the camera and pdf reader apps from Graphene, but didn't like them.
risen prefers and uses OpenCamera
and muPDF viewer from F-Droid.
Default camera is usually disabled, if possible.
-
risen has switched to whatever gallery from F-Droid works, needs fewest permissions, and has most "free" licensing.
continues using
Simple Mobile Tools Gallery,
and usually disables and clears the default gallery if different.
Sometimes risen uses Simple Draw
for sketching on the small screen.
-
risen uses OsmAnd+ (OSM Automated Navigation Directions) for
navigation while traveling, whether walking, biking, boating, driving, horseback riding, flying, or taking public transit,
using offline maps, and occasionally edits
Openstreet Maps.
risen tried Organic Maps, and wanted to like it,
but couldn't get past mis-use of the word "Organic" and lacking many features available in OSMAnd.
-
risen continues using adb-sync for backups, but is switching to newer "Better adb sync".
-
risen is aware it is trivially easy to create new XMPP accounts and join multi-user chats with new nicknames.
risen does not abuse sockpuppet accounts, and no longer sends any messages to the DivestOS MUC,
but risen may login under different XMPP accounts from time to time to see announcements and other messages.
-
risen became a
plans to become
Calyx Institute member real soon now, and encourages readers to consider joining too.
